Which is the Best Beard Balm? Here’s Our Review of the Top 3 Choices

Hey there, fellow bearded bro. We know how hard it can be to pick out the right beard products for you, especially since the market has been flooded in the past 6 months by start-ups looking to capitalize on the male grooming boom.

I know I’ve had some disappointing experiences with beard balms from smaller companies that have been sticky, poor-functioning or just all-round funky smelling (in a bad way). That’s part of the reason why I wanted to write this review – to give you dudes a heads-up on some of my personal favorite beard balms.

In case you haven’t used them before, I’m also going to give you the lowdown on beard balms in general, so you’ll know what you need to know to get the maximum benefit from them.

What is Beard Balm?

Beard balms are the older brother of the beard oil. They’re a thicker substance that are designed to tackle three key problems that arise with beard-growers:

  • Coarse hair
  • Lack of vitality
  • The dreaded beardruff (it’s awful, isn’t it?)

On top of those, a half-decent beard balm will also give you the benefit of added control. This is especially useful if you’ve got a longer beard that goes absolutely wild without any grooming products in it.Beard Balm - Before and After

Before vs. After using Beard Balm

Beard balms are typically made up of the following ingredients, each of which provide a vital function to satisfy the ever-increasing standards of the modern male:

Carrier Oils

Carrier oils are one of the most important ingredients to any good beard balm and all of the best beard balms will have it in abundance. When your beard gets to a certain length, your hair follicles run out of something called sebum oil. Sebum oil is produced by the sebaceous glands in order to keep your hair hydrated. Although everyone has different sebum oil-producing capabilities, the gland’s abilities are finite. That means, sooner or later, beardruff is going to come a’knockin’.

When you reach this point in your beard-growing journey, a product with carrier oils in it are your best bet to retrieving beard health. They’re nature’s equivalent of sebum oil and will do a fantastic job at revitalising your beard and keeping beardruff at bay.Carrier Oils

Some Popular Carrier Oils

Some of the more popular carrier oils that you may have heard of include jojoba (actually pronounced ho-ho-ba, apparently) and argan oils. Both of these are derived from plants, so you don’t have to worry about what you’re putting on your face. If you’re undecided between the two, it’s probably best to stick to jojoba oil, though, as this is the closest to sebum oil and your face will give it a better reception.

Shea/Cocoa Butters

Shea and cocoa butters are included in many of the best beard balms to make them easier to handle. On top of that, they both boast beautiful scents that’ll further add to your beard balm experience.

Since a beard balm is typically closer in consistency to a pomade, shea and cocoa butters will make it easier to spread throughout your beard, so you can reap maximum benefit.

Essential Oils

Essential oils are more confusing than you’d think they’d be, so if you don’t know much about them, you’re going to be best off choosing them based on how they smell. Essential oils are basically the ingredient that adds the smell to your balm – it’ll give you that initial punchy aroma, then gradually subside.

If you’re a beard product veteran, it’s well worth looking into the added benefits that essential oils can provide. For example, a beard balm that includes tea tree oil can be a fantastic way of treating acne. I’m sure most of us know that getting a spot underneath your beard is far from the nicest of sensations.Essential Oils

BeesWax

Having beeswax in a beard balm is going to help to tame your unruly beard, by adding just enough hold into the mix. By using a beard balm with beeswax in it, you can rest assured that your beard will stay in the same position as it was when you left the house in the morning.

I know that I find myself constantly touching my beard to make sure I don’t have any ridiculously out-of-place hairs. One of my biggest issues is the left side of my mustache, where the hairs point upwards, giving me a strangely curious facial expression. Needless to say, beard balms have seen an end to that.

How Do You Apply Beard Balm?

Applying beard balm is pretty much as you would think – warm it up, get a bit on your hands and run it through your facial hair. Even if you’ve done it before, though, it’s always a good idea to brush up on the process.

Firstly, you’re going to want to get your thumbnail and scrape out roughly that amount of it. If you’ve got a longer beard, you might need to take a bigger scoop, but you’ll get a feel for how much you need. As always, it’s better to take too little and add more, than take too much and end up with a super greasy face.

After doing this, rub the beard balm into the palms of your hands until it’s evenly distributed. You don’t want to be left with any lumps, because these are going to look pretty weird if they find their way into your beard.

Start rubbing the beard balm into your beard, working from a top-to-bottom fashion. Once you’ve done this, switch it around and go from bottom to top. This will make sure that it’s spread out well.

The final step to applying beard balm is grabbing your beard brush and combing it through. After that, you’re done!

The Best Beard Balms

Take a look at the list below to see our favorite 3 beard balms. These have been selected based on online customer reviews, as well as personal testing over an extended period of time.

Honest Amish Beard Balm

Honest Amish have created a solid reputation for themselves over the past few years, and it’s no wonder. All of their products, including their raved-about beard balm, are created from scratch in their small workshop in Pennsylvania.

Honest Amish offers a beard balm at an incredibly affordable price and you get great value for money. As an entry-point into the beard-grooming world, I’d certainly recommend this beard balm.

One of the downfalls of the product is that they’re not overly open in disclosing the ingredients that go into their balm. Sure, they’re ticking a lot of boxes, but when you’re putting something on your face, you want to be sure that you’re not using filler chemicals that could cause more harm than good in the long-run.

Although it’s understandable that they’d want to protect their family recipe, I’m also in the camp of disclosing what people are getting for their money. Don’t get me wrong, though, Honest Amish does a fantastic job of keeping your beard hair soft and healthy and eradicating b eardruff. It’s also excellent value for money.

The scent that Honest Amish produces is hard to pin down, as they’re not overly keen on disclosing the exact essential oils that they use. Some people say it’s citrusy, with undertones of licorice. I personally get wood and cocoa butter from it.

Virtu beard balm by Liberty Premium Grooming Co.

With easy application, the Virtu beard balm by Liberty Grooming Co. makes an excellent addition to any beard-lover’s product shelf. The subtle aroma also means it’s a great choice for beginner balm buyers who don’t quite know what scent they like.

Once again, however, Virtu beard balm doesn’t disclose the essential oil ingredients. If you’re allergic to any facial products, it might be worth giving this one a miss. Despite the fact that it’s really rare, if you get an allergic reaction from this product, you’re going to have a tough time narrowing down which oils to avoid in the future.

This balm has worked wonders for me as far as keeping my skin hydrated is concerned, but if you have a longer beard that’s typically unruly, Virtu beard balm might not be the one for you.

Smooth Viking Beard Balm

Many men pass this beard balm by, put off by the basic looking tin container. I’ve tried this product though and let me say, that’s a mistake. If you look past the tin, you’ll discover an incredibly high quality and affordable beard balm that’ll satisfy all of your grooming needs.

Designed for both shaping and controlling your beard, the extra beeswax content might be too much for some men, but if you’ve got a longer beard, Smooth Viking beard balm is definitely the one for you.

Boasting all-natural ingredients such as argan oil, avocado oil and mango butter, this balm is as good for your beard as it is for the environment. Despite being thick and somewhat harder to apply than the balms above, Smooth Viking beard balm does a fantastic job of both softening and conditioning beard hair, ensuring that it stays in top condition.

Beard Balm vs. Beard Wax vs. Beard Oil – What’s the Difference?

If you have grown or are currently growing a beard, you’ll no doubt have realised along the way that it’s trickier than it looks. You’ve probably noticed that beards require more love and care than you may have originally thought and also, you may or may not have realised that there are products that can help.

Sadly, this is a whole other issue. With so many products on the market, it can be difficult for the modern man to decipher between the useful and the downright money-wasters. We’ve prepared several guides to help men figure out which products are worth their money, such as our best beard oil and best beard brush articles. In this article, however, we’re going to cover some of the basics.

One issue that men have difficulty with is distinguishing between the functions of individual products, such as oils, balms and waxes. They’re all fairly similar, they’re all best used after your daily shower and shampoo routine, but what are the key differences? In this article, we’re going to walk you through the individual benefits of each.

Beard Oils

We’re going to kick this article off by talking about beard oils. Personally, I think they’re great. Sure, they can be a little on the greasy side, but that’s only if you use too much of them. Nail the quantity after your daily shower routine and you’ll reap the benefits.

By using beard oil on a daily basis, you’ll be able to keep your hair and the underlying skin moisturized. Promoting skin and hair health like this will help you to avoid any unattractive conditions such as beardruff.

In addition to moisturizing the skin, beard oil will also soften the hair of your beard, making you increasingly popular with any significant others in your life. It’s unfortunate, but prickly beard hair just isn’t attractive to a lot of people. Using a high-quality oil, however, can put an end to this. Often enriched with ingredients such as jojoba and the increasingly-popular argan oil, beard oils will reduce split ends and soften your beard hair, making it more enjoyable for all.

The best time to apply beard oil is in the morning, immediately after showering. This is because your pores will be naturally open after washing and will therefore absorb more of the oil.

Beard Balms – Why They’re Different

The first thing you’re going to notice about your beard balm is the consistency. That’s right, they’re a lot thicker than your typical oil. Most because oil is, y’know, oil. A balm has much more substance to it and therefore has a few more benefits.

In addition to all of the usual moisturizing benefits you’re going to get from a beard oil, a good beard balm will also double as a styling agent. Although it’s probably not going to have a crazy amount of hold, it’s an absolute godsend to the bros among us who are boasting bushier beards. A decent lump of beard balm massaged into your facial hair as part of your morning routine will help to keep those pesky rebellious hairs at bay, giving your beard style a more rounded, polished look.

Beard balm sits straight in the middle of both oil and wax as far as consistency goes, which is why it’s a popular choice for both time-poor and beginner beard growers alike.

Personally, I prefer beard oil. This is because running my hands through my beard has always been a go-to gesture when I’m stressed or thinking (it’s also my classic tell when I play poker, but keep that between us). Using a beard balm and running your fingers through it is going to leave your hands coated in balm residue. It’ll be gorgeous smelling residue, but residue nonetheless, so be sure to choose carefully. If you can avoid touching your beard after applying balm or put up with the residue, that’s cool. I just can’t but that’s my personal preference.

Beard Wax

We’ve reached the other end of the beard product spectrum and that’s exactly where beard wax resides. It’s tough, somewhat unforgiving, but once your beard is in the style you set with it, it’s damn sure gonna stay that way.

Beard wax is a fantastic grooming aid that’s going to work wonders for any of you bros who suffer from unruly beards. Essentially, it’s the bearded male’s equivalent of hairspray, apart from it’s great for both your beard and the environment.

Beard/Mustache Wax

If you live in areas that are particularly cold and windy, beard wax is going to be your best friend. Commonly consisting of ingredients such as beeswax, shea nut butter and coconut oil, a good beard wax will help to protect your beard from the bad weather, whilst also serving to keep it at peak style.

We understand that everyone is different. Regardless of your preferred beard product, we’ve pulled together a couple of the internet’s top options for you:

What’s the Best Beard Comb? Here’s Our Review of the Top 5 of 2017!

As a man, growing a beard is one of the single most rewarding things you can do. It isn’t, however, always as simple as you’d think. After you’ve overcome the potential obstacle of filling out any gaps in your patchy beard, you’re then left with a bushy face-mane that can be a real challenge to control.

At this point – usually around 4 weeks in – many men succumb to the itchiness and hairiness and throw in the towel. There’s no shame surrounding this – in fact, I’ve crumbled and pulled out the razor several times along my beard growing journey. This is before I found out that there are products to help.

I’m blessed with great genes, so growing facial hair has never been the issue. The problem has come in the form of beardruff, itchiness and a mess of hair on my face that a bird could start a small family in.

One of the tools I wish I had’ve discovered back when I started out was the beard comb. It’s simple, inexpensive, and basically gets the job done. In this article, I’m going to impart my knowledge, sharing with you what you need to know about beard combs, including some of the industry’s best options. Together, we’ll find the best beard comb for you.

Beard Combs – What Are Your Options?

When looking for the best beard comb, you’ll be left with a few different choices. Finding the best beard comb for you will usually be down to the style, length and thickness of your own beard, but here are the main options for you to consider:

The Metal Beard Comb

If you can find the right manufacturer, a stainless-steel beard comb can look great. It will, however, be tougher on your skin. If you’ve got a thick, stubborn beard, a metal beard comb will be a great choice for you. If you’ve got sensitive skin, you’ll probably be better suited to a wooden beard comb.

The Wooden Beard Comb

Rustic, stylish, and oozing masculinity, finding the best wooden beard comb for you will provide you with a gentler grooming experience than its metal cousins.

Rustic, stylish, and oozing masculinity, finding the best wooden beard comb for you will provide you with a gentler grooming experience than its metal cousins.

The Plastic Beard Comb

It’s not worth spending $10 on something that’ll last you 3 months when you can get something that’ll last a lifetime for $20. Much as with beard brushes, plastic teeth on a beard comb will actually end up doing damage to your skin with long-term use. Considering the fact that you’ve bought a beard comb to improve your beard and skin health, there’s not much benefit to plastic. As a result, if you’re after the best, wooden beard combs are the way to go.

LovelyBeards Gingerbread Beard Oil Product Review

Beard oils are great. Over the past 5 years, they’ve really surged in popularity among the male grooming community, quickly earning themselves a place in many a man’s bathroom cabinet. Helping to soften and keep unruly beard hairs under control, beard oil is the ideal solution to any man with a misbehaving beard.

If you’ve got a beard that’s dry, itchy, or maybe even looking a bit tired, it’s probably time to invest in some beard oil.

We love beard products here at Beardicure and are always excited about taking new ones for a test-drive. So, when LovelyBeards sent me a bottle of their Gingerbread beard oil, I couldn’t wait to try it out. In this article, I’m going to tell you what you need to know about LovelyBeards beard oil and take you through my experiences with it.

LovelyBeards Beard Oil

LovelyBeards founded their business on much the same premise as why we started up Beardicure – growing a beard shouldn’t be difficult and every man should have the tools needed to give it their best shot.

Currently LovelyBeards has over 6 different organic beard oils with some unique scents, there’s sure to be something to take your fancy. Based on my guilty pleasure for home baking, after some deliberation I settled on their gingerbread beard oil.

Gingerbread Beard Oil

Bottle Size: 30ml

LovelyBeards have definitely put some effort into their packaging. On the side of the box that the 30ml beard oil comes in is a handy guide that gives you an idea of how much of their oil to use.

If you’ve used beard oil before, you’ll know that there’s an element of trial and error involved. Fortunately, they’ve taken that out of the equation with the following recommendations:

  • Beardless to 1 Month – 3 to 4 drops
  • 1 Month to 3 Months – 4 to 6 drops
  • 3 Months to 12 Months – 6 to 10 drops
  • 12 Months and Longer – 10 drops and over

Scent: Gingerbread

The beard oil smelled like food and it made me hungry.” – that’s some female feedback I got, so bear that in mind.

Well, when they said gingerbread, they definitely meant gingerbread. Where some beard oils are a bit hit and miss with their essential oils, LovelyBeards have got it spot-on.

Before using it, I was expecting to be hit by more of a sweet scent, but immediately after applying I was greeted by a savoury, spiced aroma. Whereas the scent from some oils wears off after half an hour, this oil lingered for a good 3-4 hours, with others being able to smell it for a while after that.

I was concerned that it’d be overpowering, as some brands in the past have even managed to bring on headaches from invasive odours. With this, however, it was by no means overwhelming and I really enjoyed being able to pick up on it for several hours after application. If you are particularly sensitive to smell, however, it might be worth picking a different scent from their range.

LovelyBeards Different Beard Oils

Main Ingredients

LovelyBeards have gone all-out with their selection of carrier oils for this product. By looking at the list below, it’s pretty clear to see that you’re getting value for money.

Jojoba Oil

  • Ideal for moisturizing skin

Grapeseed Oil and Hempseed Oil

  • Both support hair growth

Kiwi Seed Oil

  • Hydrates dry and unruly hair

Avocado Oil

  • Repairs damaged hair

As far as essential oils go, they haven’t been as forthcoming, but that’s completely understandable – gotta keep the secret recipe under wraps.

The Benefits?

So, I typically use beard products every day. In my morning shower I shampoo my beard to remove any excess oil/balm/previous day’s nasties, then I apply either a balm or an oil to hydrate, soften and support my growth. As a result, my beard’s in pretty good shape, so I wasn’t sure how I was going to benchmark this review. Perhaps a comparison to some of my favorite products?

Fortunately (and unfortunately for me), the Heavens spoke and cast me down with illness for 5 days prior to writing this review. I hibernated in bed, neglecting my responsibilities. My beard was left untreated.

Lo and behold, last Friday my beardruff had returned.

Great.

Although frustrating, it did leave me in a great place to start trying this product.

Beardruff

Beardruff be Banished!

What d’you know? After 4 days of using LovelyBeards beard oil once in the morning, my beardruff had completely subsided. Although my beard isn’t insanely long, the hair underneath it still dries out and my hair follicles seem unable to produce a sufficient amount of sebum oil no matter the length. For this purpose, the oil was an absolute godsend.

After treating my beard with the oil, it’s feeling more hydrated and looking much more healthy.

The Prickly Hair is No More

After my illness had subsided, I also trimmed my beard down to get rid of some of the split ends that had cropped up. At this point, it was feeling real prickly.

Once again, after applying the beard oil for 4 consecutive days, it’s gotten way softer. In fact, it was noticeably softer after the first application. If you suffer from tougher stubble, this oil will work wonders from you.

The oil is a little greasy, but then again, it is oil. Also, I’ve been applying a drop or two extra each morning to really kick it into action, so I’m not sure what I really should have expected.

Would I Use it Again?

Overall – absolutely. I love the smell, love the consistency, and I really love how quickly it’s got my beard fighting fit again. Although the scent is a little less sweet than I anticipated, it’s still fantastic.

My next review is going to cover their beard balm, which I got in delicious nectarine mint. It already smells awesome, so I’m really excited to get stuck into it.

I’m definitely going to explore some of their other products in the future, so stay tuned for that. I’d also love LovelyBeards to produce a range of beard shampoo, because I’d be all over that.

Minoxidil Beard Treatment – How Well Does Minoxidil Work?

For many men, a beard is a rite of passage to masculinity. Unfortunately, it’s also not always easy for everyone to grow one. As a result of the rise in beard popularity and the demand for dudes to have bushy beards on their faces, a whole host of products have hit the market.

The majority of these fall under the category of beard care products, but there’s also a section of the market dedicated to those males who have a harder time growing fuller, thicker facial hair.

If you’re part of that group who have a tough time growing your beard out, it could be well worth your time checking out some of the options there. The most popular ones on the market are Vitabeard and Beard Czar, but a more traditional contender by the name of Minoxidil has also entered the arena.

When concerning head hair, Minoxidil is often referred to as Rogaine, as it’s the primary ingredient within that product. It has, however, also shown incredibly promising results for those looking to grow out their beards. From a variety of online reviews, men are claiming to actually be seeing the results. That’s a really promising start.

So it’s pretty clear that Minoxidil gets the job done. In fact, it’s been scientifically proven that Minoxidil can help to influence growth spurts of hair in males, which is great news for all of you dudes who suffer from patchy beards.

minoxidil

That’s not all you need to know, though. In this article, we’re going to cover all of the information surrounding Minoxidil, including potential side effects, how you can maintain a healthy beard during treatment, as well as some other plausible alternatives.

How Well Does Minoxidil Work?

I’ve never tried Minoxidil, mostly because I’ve never needed to. Despite my shortcomings, I’ve always been able to grow a strong beard very quickly. From what I’ve heard from friends and researched online though, it’s pretty damn clear that Minoxidil beard treatment works.

What I will say, however, is that you need to patient with the amount of time that it takes to work. A lot of online reviews are from customers who’ve purchased the product, taken it, and expected to wake up the following morning looking like some kind of bearded Rapunzel. If you can find any product in the world that does that, let me know, because we’ll make some serious money together.

When taking Minoxidil beard treatment, you shouldn’t prepare yourself to wait 5 days. In fact, you shouldn’t even expect to see explosive results within 5 weeks. Studies have shown that men experience the biggest growth spurts after 6 months of continuous Minoxidil usage. Sure, it’s a long-term commitment and you’ve got to be prepared to take regular applications, but you’ll most likely see results that you’re happy with.

Eric Bandholz of BeardBrand has made a short but sweet video about using Minoxidil for beard growth. You can check it out below

Can You Get Minoxidil to Work Faster?

If you’re not too happy with the idea of sitting around for the best part of a year waiting for a beard to appear on your face, you’re not alone. Fortunately, there are a few tricks you can have up your sleeve to boost the speed at which Minoxidil works.

Firstly, the easiest is going to be to buy a higher-concentrate of Minoxidil. The product typically comes in two versions – 2% and 5%. If you want dramatic effects quicker, it might be worth you picking up the stronger version of Minoxidil.

How to Apply Minoxidil

Once you’ve picked up your Minoxidil, you’re going to want to start the application process as quickly as possible. To do this, you’ll need to get the pipette included with the bottle and apply it to your face twice a day – in the morning and in the evening. How to Apply Minoxidil

Start rubbing the product into the base of your hair follicles, and work your way out to the outer hairs.

To apply Minoxidil, you’ll need to start rubbing the product into the base of your hair follicles, gradually working your way out to hit the outer hairs. Getting it into the roots of your hair is a key part of the process, as it’s what’s required to get Minoxidil absorbed and start working on a thicker, fuller beard.

Does Minoxidil Have Any Side-Effects?

As with the vast majority of available drugs on the free market, Minoxidil does come with a few side-effects. Although they’re not prominent, we strongly advise that you read up on them to see if they could have an adverse effect on you.

Some of the more common side-effects of Minoxidil include increased or irregular heartbeat, itching and irritation (due to hair follicles becoming dry), redness, and the occasional bout of weight gain. I’m by no means a doctor so make sure you read the labels carefully, but in my opinion, those side-effects seem pretty manageable considering the end prize.

If you shed a bit of hair, don’t worry…

This might sound a bit alarming at first, but it shouldn’t be a cause for concern. As previously discussed, this isn’t an overnight treatment – it’s something that’s going to take several months to achieve and your body’s going to need to prepare for this. For that reason, you might notice a couple of instances of shedding, where hair falls out of your beard. This is completely natural and is just your body’s way of preparing for continuous future hair growth. Rogaine even address it on their website:“Rogaine products stimulate hair follicles to shift from the resting phase to the growth phase. Thus, it is not uncommon to see a temporary increase in shedding during the first 2 weeks using Rogaine products. This occurs in some people as the new hair pushes out the older hairs, when the hair follicle shifts into the growth phase.”

Keeping a Strong Beard Whilst Using Minoxidil

When growing a beard, it’s essential that you take care of it properly. This is no different when using Minoxidil – in fact, it’s even more important.

Beard oil is one of the best ways that you can prevent and treat beardruff. Beardruff is caused by your hair follicles running out of the naturally produced sebum oil that keeps your beard in top condition. When using Minoxidil, your hair is going to grow faster than normal, meaning your hair follicles will run out of sebum oil more

One of the most prominent ingredients in beard oils are carrier oils, which are very chemically close to sebum oil. By washing your beard and applying beard oil daily, you’ll be able to keep it in top condition. Trust me, it’ll be incredibly effective at treating your beardruff and it’ll even give your beard a lovely, healthy sheen to it.

What Else Can You do to Accentuate Minoxidil’s Effects?

There are a couple of other things you can do to help give your Minoxidil beard treatment that added boost. If you’re looking to get your beard thicker, consider the following:

Up Your Protein Game

As well as being a key building-block for muscle mass, protein also helps hair follicles to grow. If you work out, you might have noticed an upturn in your beard growth. Some people think that this is down to testosterone, when studies have actually shown that testosterone doesn’t have as much influence as previously thought.

protein powder

Your hair follicles are some of the fastest growing cells in your body, so by eating protein, you’re going to speed up their growth time.

Do Your Best to Remove Stress

Stress is your body’s non-specific response to basically any demand made upon it (thank you, college Psychology class). For some, it kicks you into gear when you’ve got a deadline looming over your shoulders, for others, it just keeps them awake at night.

Either way, stress isn’t great for you if you’re trying to grow a beard. It’s going to hamper your facial hair growth, so you won’t see the results that you want to. One great way to destress is to work out, so if you’re not doing that already, give it a go. I also tried out yoga for a little bit, but I’ve got a hardwood floor in my apartment and it made my knees hurt (I did it once then quit).

Get Some Rest

Sleeping

To get the most out of Minoxidil beard results and your general beard-growing escapades, you need to ensure that you’re getting your 8 hours of sleep every night. With all of life’s trials, tribulations and constant commitments, this is a tall order for most people. Getting a full 8 hours every night will make you feel good all-round though, so give it your best shot.

I hope you’ve found this article useful. We’ll be covering more and more beard growth products over the coming months, so stay tuned for the latest installments!

Also, a word of caution – although the plethora of positive online reviews have led me to believe that Minoxidil is worth your time, always consult with your doctor before trying out any new medicines. After that, stay strong, live well and as always, happy growing dudes!

Have you had an experience with Minoxidil that you want to share with us? Let us know how you got on in the comments box below!

What is Vitabeard?

Vitabeard Supplements

Vitabeard presents itself as the original facial hair growth and maintenance supplement. Through a unique combination of vitamins, the supplement enhances and accelerates the beard growing process. If you struggle with growing healthy hair quickly, this product could be for you.

It claims to be the first of its kind and is specially formulated to support the growth of healthy facial hair. Due to its nutrient-dense profile, it can also be taken as a daily multivitamin. What more do you need?

It’s important to not be under any illusions as to what this product does. Although it won’t actually generate facial hair growth itself, it’s definitely a great fertilizer to help your body with the process. If you’re looking to support facial hair growth, then Vitabeard is worth a go.

Be aware, however, that it won’t spark growth in areas that previously haven’t had hair. If you’ve got a patchy beard with bald spots, you’re not going to get much from Vitabeard. If you’ve got areas, however, with hair that are growing less quickly than others, Vitabeard will be able to help you.

Vitabeard’s Key Features and Benefits

So, does Vitabeard work? Although the core principal of Vitabeard is accelerated beard growth, there’s more to it than you might initially see. I’ve read over a great many of online Vitabeard reviews to sum up the key advantages of taking this supplement. Read on to learn more about Vitabeard’s key features and benefits.

Accelerated Beard Growth

One of the primary ingredients in Vitabeard is Biotin, also known as vitamin H. It’s a key-player in promoting the accelerated growth of beard hair in males and can seriously help you to up your facial hair game.

Biotin is responsible for several metabolic reactions in the body and it’s essential for boosting hair growth. Research has even shown that high quantities of biotin can assist in preventing hair loss in older males. What is Biotin

Biotin Chemical Compound

Strong Facial Hair

If you suffer from damaged or dry hair, Vitabeard is here to help. With a unique combination of vitamin C, Vitabeard will help to promote good beard health. Working to increase your body’s collagen production, vitamin C will help to repair and prevent split hairs and dry skin.

In addition to this, vitamin C is also instrumental in keeping your immune system in top condition. This is especially handy heading into colder months, as not only will you be able to protect your facial hair from split ends and being dried by the wind, you’ll also be able to keep yourself healthy. There’s nothing worse than catching a winter cold and Vitabeard can indirectly help to reduce your chances of getting one.

Reduce Beard Itchiness

One of the key things I see that makes people drop out of the beard-growing process and go clean-shaven again is an itchy beard. It’s uncomfortable, frustrating and to be completely honest, a damn inconvenience.

Resist the itch

I must admit that I’ve crumbled and drawn the razor from my wash bag more than once over the past 5 years. Had I have known back then, however, that a supplement could help to reduce the never-ending beard itch, I probably would have given it a go.

Vitabeard can help to reduce annoying beard itches with its Beta Carotene (vitamin A) complex. Beta Carotene helps to reduce the amount of oil your face produces, which in turn can help to prevent the clogging of oil glands. It’s this that leads to dry skin, beardruff, and the dreaded accompanying itch.

Give Your Beard A New Shine and Sheen

When scouting out other men’s beards in public (come on, we all do it), it’s easy to pick out ones that are well looked after from the rest of the bunch. Beards that aren’t cared for are often frizzy, overly bushy and look dry and damaged. Unless you’re Grizzly Adams, it’s not a look that many can pull off.

With vitabeard, you can improve the overall health of your facial hair and give it a shine and sheen that’ll make it look brand new. In the winter months, this is absolutely invaluable, as cold winds will really do a number on your beard.

Packed with vitamin E, Vitabeard improves the circulation of oxygen and nutrients in your blood around your body, helping them to reach your hair follicles and work their magic.

Prevent Grey Hair

Some of you will no doubt know the pain of looking in the mirror one day and noticing that first grey hair. I’ve yet to reach this stage, but years of emo-phase hair straightening will have no doubt left me somewhat predisposed for grey hairs. It’s only a matter of time.

Checking For Grey Facial Hair

Strangely, beards seem somewhat susceptible to greying earlier than other bodily hairs. A greying beard can actually look great, especially if you’re going for the archaic Philosopher look. If you’re not a fan of grey hairs, however, your options are either beard dye or supplementing to prevent them from occurring in the first place. Vitabeard can help with this.

Containing Para-aminobenzoic Acid (PABA), Vitabeard can help to prevent grey hairs from arising in the first place, a true blessing for the stressed modern male. If you’ve already started sprouting grey hairs, it might not be too late. If your grey hairs were caused by a nutritional deficiency or stress, Vitabeard may be able to restore it to its former glory.

Reduce the Chances of Hair Loss

The same as greying hair, some of us are predisposed for hair loss from an early age. I’ve previously suffered from it. In addition to losing head hair, I started to develop patches in my beard where hair would occasionally come out when I ran my hands through it. Fortunately, it was long enough to go unnoticed, but it was still a huge inconvenience.

I later found out that this was largely caused by stress (I quit my job and all was fine), but I started supplementing zinc to promote healthy hair growth. As well as being vital for maintaining strong immune system health, zinc also helps to prevent hair loss. After a month or so of using it, my hair started staying on my head. What a relief.

One of Vitabeard’s main ingredients is zinc, meaning it can help you to avoid hair loss, too. Your body can deplete its zinc sources pretty quickly, so supplementing it can be a good idea. Zinc deficiencies can lead to dry and damaged skin, as well as a slowed growth of facial hair.

Other Products to Consider

Although Vitabeard is an all-in-one solution for beard health, if you only need a few of the effects it might be worth looking at other products:

Beard Shampoo

If you suffer from damaged and dry-looking hair, a good beard shampoo will produce quick results. It’ll help restore sheen to your beard and work to actively reduce beardruff. A supplement like Vitabeard can take up to a month to kick in, whereas the results from a good beard shampoo, such as that by Mountaineer Brand, will be visible within a few washes.

Beard Oil

Looking to soften your beard hair and reduce beardruff? When used well, beard oil can nail both of these points for you. Best used after a shower following a beard shampoo treatment, beard oils provide benefit that you’ll feel instantly. Say goodbye to those uncomfortable itches.

I absolutely love the beard oil produced by Smooth Viking, so it’s well worth you checking out.

Look after your beard and it’ll look after you. As with anything, this supplement should be taken in moderation. If you overdo it, Vitabeard side effects may start to present themselves. Vitamins and nutrients are good for you, but not in huge quantities. Pay attention to the recommended daily intake and it’ll be nothing but smooth sailing for you.

Beard Growth Products – The 3 You Should Check Out

Growing awesome facial hair takes a ton of patience and in the modern world, that’s not always easy to come by. On top of that, there are a huge amount of internal and external factors which can easily influence your beard-growing capabilities. To name a few, these include diet, sleep, water consumption as well as the amount you exercise.

Additionally, age can really come into it. While your 20’s are probably among the best times to start a beard grow, if you’re younger than 18 you’re likely going to have a tough time. Although beard growth products might help to some extent, you’re probably not going to see close to the same results you would if you left your hormones a couple of extra years to do their thing. If you’re adamant that you want a beard, however, who are we to stop you – beard products can be well worth a go.

For a lot of men, growing a beard is is one of the many rites of passage that needs to be achieved. If you’ve got some beard-growing capabilities and are looking to give yourself that added boost, a beard growth product could be the right option for you.

Before Buying A Beard Growth Product

It’s not a problem that I’ve faced personally, as I’ve been blessed with very strong beard-growing genes. I do know, however, how frustrating it can be when your beard isn’t growing at a speed you’d like.

Before investing in a beard growth product, you should have a think about why your beard isn’t growing quickly. Although it could be genetic, it might also be worth taking a look at your typical daily diet and figuring out whether you’re not getting enough of what your body needs.

For example, if you’re missing out on vital proteins, minerals and vitamins, you’re probably going to see a decline in growth speed. For this reason, it might be worth improving your diet first off and buying some inexpensive general supplements – in the long-run, this will save you from spending out on beard growth products, which aren’t always cheap.

Our Top Beard Growth Products

We’ve reviewed several beard growth products, but the ones in the list below stood out from the crowd. This might have been due to a reasonable price, quality of the product or both. If you’re interested in finding the right beard supplement for you, read on to learn more.

Beard Growth by Reborn Labs

We’re kicking this list off with one of the more premium items available on the market. Sure, it isn’t in the price range of men’s beard products such as Beard Czar, but it’s still slightly pricier than some of the other options available.

What you do get for the price, however, is a beard-growth guarantee. Reborn Labs are so confident in their product’s ability to boost beard growth that they offer a money-back guarantee. If you don’t see results in the form of a fuller, thicker and longer beard, you’ll get your hard-earned cash back in your bank.

Beard Growth is jam-packed with vitamins and minerals that are known for their abilities to increase facial hair growth. Including over 25 different key ingredients such as the famed biotin, Beard Growth are confident that their product is an essential addition to any man’s quest to grow the perfect beard.

When using a supplement such as Beard Growth, you can kiss goodbye to those annoying patchy spots in your beard. The vitamin and mineral complex included within will work to fill out your beard. You’ll no longer have to worry about only growing facial hair in certain places and being cornered into choosing certain styles as a result.

In addition to a badass bushy beard, Beard Growth also enhances your overall health. That means that your skin and general complexion are going to improve too. As well as having a newly-grown beard, you’ll also be able to get a refreshed, healthy looking face to compliment it.

Godefroy Thick Beard and Mustache Growth Serum

This product isn’t so much a supplement as it is a cream. Godefroy have produced an excellent serum that has been proven to promote the growth of facial hair and reduce the overall patchiness of your beard.

One immediate bonus of this product is its price. Although the benefits you reap from it might not quite be at the level of Beard Grow, it’s still packed with ingredients which, for the amount they’re asking for, are not to be ignored. One of the primary ingredients in Godefroy’s Thick beard and mustache growth serum is Jamaican castor oil, which is known for its nourishing properties. With this, you’ll be able to grow a thicker, fuller beard using a serum that actively penetrates your beard hair and hydrates, repairs and fortifies the underlying skin.

Godefroy’s serum is applied in the evening before bed, so you don’t have to worry about getting it on your hands during the day or on your phone when making or taking calls. It’s a 4 week intensive treatment – simply apply it each night before going to sleep, wash it off the following morning and repeat. Once the period is up, you should see some promising results.

Beard Grow XL Facial Hair Supplement

As far as beard growth products go, Beard Grow XL is the creme de la creme. It’s top of the market for the best beard growth supplements, with hundreds of positive reviews on Amazon reinforcing the value it’s provided to men across the world.

Millions of men trust Beard Grow XL’s tried and tested formula to provide them with the results they need. Comprised of 100% non-hormonal ingredients, you can rest assured that Beard Grow XL will get you your results without putting your health at risk. In fact, taking this supplement will actually provide you with awesome overall benefits. Packed full of vitamins and nutrients, Beard Grow XL will keep your skin and immune system in great shape, something that’s especially important if you’re heading into the colder winter months.

In contrast to other beard growth supplements, Beard Grow XL actually claims that it can get you fast-acting results. While I can’t testify for the validity of this statement, the hundreds of positive reviews on the Amazon product page should be testament enough themselves.

Alternatives to Beard Growth Products

As an alternative to beard growth products, you might also want to consider a few other options. These are particularly useful if you’re not quite ready to invest in a full-fledged supplement, or if you think you don’t quite need the level of growth enhancement that they claim.

As an immediate plus, the men’s beard products below are also more affordable than beard growth supplements. Take a look to see what you think.

Beard Oils

For those looking to avoid supplements, a good beard oil could be the right option for you. Nourishing your hair and skin, beard oils have been known to increase blood flow around your face, which in turn results in more facial hair growth.

In addition to this, they’ll also soften your beard hair and keep it healthy, meaning it’ll look great all year round.

Beard Shampoos

Although you might not think it, beard shampoos can actually play a key role in supporting beard growth. As well as keeping your beard clean, washing daily with a beard shampoo will remove dead skin cells and loose hairs, making way for more hairs to grow. If you’re not looking for extensive hair growth, a beard shampoo could be your answer.

LovelyBeards Necterine Mint Beard Balm Product Review

For those of us looking to take care of our beards and keep them in good check, but also need to prevent them from flying all over the place in response to the slightest breeze, it can be difficult to find a suitable product.

Beard oil is only going to do half of the job and nobody wants to put hair wax into it. If you’re looking to maintain health and promote growth whilst also being able to hold your beard in a certain shape, beard balm is your guy. I’ve written about a variety of beard balms in the past – some good, some bad – but a few weeks ago, LovelyBeards sent us a pot of their nectarine mint beard balm.

Let me tell you, it’s something else. In this article, we’re going to take you through everything you need to know about LovelyBeards nectarine mint beard balm, so you can make the call on whether it’s the right product for you.

LovelyBeards Beard Balm

A cross between beard oil and wax, beard balm really is the best of both worlds. Although I do enjoy using oil for its overabundant scent and ease of application, beard balm is usually my go-to product when it comes to day-to-day use.

Currently available in 7 different scents, LovelyBeards beard balm makes an excellent addition to the grooming routine of any gentleman looking to up his game.

LovelyBeards Vinella Beard Balm
LovelyBeards Bourbon Beard Balm
LovelyBeards Unscented Beard Balm
LovelyBeards Nectarine Mint Beard Balm
LovelyBeards Mandarin Beard Balm
Black Pepper Beard Balm
LovelyBeards Gingerbread Beard Balm

Quantity: 2fl oz (60ml)

Depending on how regularly you use it and how much you use at a time, one tin of LovelyBeards beard balm is likely to last you well over a month.

I’ve been using this balm every day for 5 days and only applying a small amount each time. It’s a little tougher than other beard balms, so the best method of application is to scrape it using your thumb nail, rub into the palms of your hands until warm, then to evenly distribute it throughout your beard.

Scent: Nectarine Mint

nectarine mint beard balm

As there are less essential oils contained within, it’s understandable that the scent from the beard balms is less prominent than that from LovelyBeard’s range of oils.

  • Related: LovelyBeards Gingerbread Beard Oil Review

The scent, although gentle, is noticeable and enjoyable as a result, however.

Main Ingredients

Shea Butter

  • Moisturizes the skin.

Beeswax

  • Produces the hold for the balm.

Almond Oil

  • Promotes healthy skin. It’s also great for reducing the risk of heart disease if you eat it, but we’d probably recommend you investing in the standalone product as opposed to ingesting the balm itself.

Coconut Oil

  • Naturally-antibacterial and antifungal, which is ideal for skin that’s being pruned regularly.

Aloe Veera Gel

  • Works effectively to reduce inflammation and the classic itchy beard.

Vitamin E

  • An essential ingredient in maintaining healthy hair, as well as promoting future hair growth.

Essential Oils

  • LovelyBeards haven’t disclosed the exact essentail oils they’ve used in this product, which is understandable, as they no doubt want to keep their product’s recipe safe. Standard essential oil, however, is renowned for its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory abilities.

The Benefits

As you’ve probably gleamed from the ingredients within LovelyBeards’ beard balm, you’re going benefit from it one way or another. I use products on my beard every day. If you’ve read our review of their gingerbread beard oil, you’ll also know that I’ve been fairly ill for the past 10 days.

During this period, I haven’t been using any products and my beard has reverted to its previously-barren state. Not ideal for me, but a pretty ideal benchmark from which to test out the benefits of the LovelyBeards beard balm. Here’s what I got from it:

Hold, Hold, Hold

Aside from the glorious smell, the first thing I noticed about this beard balm was the great level of hold that it provides.

Typically, companies that make beard balm find it hard to get the mix spot-on – some add way too much beeswax, whereas others don’t add nearly enough. The result? Far too much hold, or no hold at all.

Keep Your Beard in Check

LovelyBeards have absolutely nailed it with this beard balm. The hold you get from the product is pronounced enough to keep your beard in check, but not so much that you can’t still run your hand through it.

Noticeably Softens Hair

As your beard starts to pick up length, you’ll notice that the hair will become prickly, as well as pretty itchy, too. Nobody wants that. After 4 or 5 days of no products, my beard was getting back to that stage, too.

After adding some beard balm into my beard after my shower, however, I immediately felt better. My itch was gone and my hair even felt softer. I’ve continued to use the product for the past couple of days and the the hair has continued to reduce in prickliness.

Beardruff is a Thing of the Past

If there was ever a thing I hated, it’s beardruff. You’re in heated conversation and pause to think of a point. You run a cursory hand through your hair and suddenly, it’s white Christmas. Horrible.

Fortunately, this beard balm solved my beardruff issues, which had sneakily crept back onto the scene after my period of illness, during which I neglected to keep my facial hair moisturized.

Would I Use it Again?

Absolutely. On top of nectarine and mint being two of my favorite smells (hence why I chose them), LovelyBeards beard balm is an excellent product that really adds value to your morning routine.

Although the consistency of the balm is a little strange, it heats up perfectly in your hand and is still easy to apply – it just might take an extra 20 seconds or so over other balms.

In future, I’m definitely going to be trying out their mandarin and cedarwood scented balm, as well as explore their range of beard oils in more detail. I’d be interested to find out if they’re considering launching a range of beard grooming tools and brushes, as I’d be all over that.
