For those of us looking to take care of our beards and keep them in good check, but also need to prevent them from flying all over the place in response to the slightest breeze, it can be difficult to find a suitable product.

Beard oil is only going to do half of the job and nobody wants to put hair wax into it. If you’re looking to maintain health and promote growth whilst also being able to hold your beard in a certain shape, beard balm is your guy. I’ve written about a variety of beard balms in the past – some good, some bad – but a few weeks ago, LovelyBeards sent us a pot of their nectarine mint beard balm.

Let me tell you, it’s something else. In this article, we’re going to take you through everything you need to know about LovelyBeards nectarine mint beard balm, so you can make the call on whether it’s the right product for you.

LovelyBeards Beard Balm

A cross between beard oil and wax, beard balm really is the best of both worlds. Although I do enjoy using oil for its overabundant scent and ease of application, beard balm is usually my go-to product when it comes to day-to-day use.

Currently available in 7 different scents, LovelyBeards beard balm makes an excellent addition to the grooming routine of any gentleman looking to up his game.

Quantity: 2fl oz (60ml)

Depending on how regularly you use it and how much you use at a time, one tin of LovelyBeards beard balm is likely to last you well over a month.

I’ve been using this balm every day for 5 days and only applying a small amount each time. It’s a little tougher than other beard balms, so the best method of application is to scrape it using your thumb nail, rub into the palms of your hands until warm, then to evenly distribute it throughout your beard.

Scent: Nectarine Mint

As there are less essential oils contained within, it’s understandable that the scent from the beard balms is less prominent than that from LovelyBeard’s range of oils.

• Naturally-antibacterial and antifungal, which is ideal for skin that’s being pruned regularly.

Aloe Veera Gel

• Works effectively to reduce inflammation and the classic itchy beard.

Vitamin E

• An essential ingredient in maintaining healthy hair, as well as promoting future hair growth.

Essential Oils

• LovelyBeards haven’t disclosed the exact essentail oils they’ve used in this product, which is understandable, as they no doubt want to keep their product’s recipe safe. Standard essential oil, however, is renowned for its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory abilities.

The Benefits

As you’ve probably gleamed from the ingredients within LovelyBeards’ beard balm, you’re going benefit from it one way or another. I use products on my beard every day. If you’ve read our review of their gingerbread beard oil, you’ll also know that I’ve been fairly ill for the past 10 days.

During this period, I haven’t been using any products and my beard has reverted to its previously-barren state. Not ideal for me, but a pretty ideal benchmark from which to test out the benefits of the LovelyBeards beard balm. Here’s what I got from it:

Hold, Hold, Hold

Aside from the glorious smell, the first thing I noticed about this beard balm was the great level of hold that it provides.

Typically, companies that make beard balm find it hard to get the mix spot-on – some add way too much beeswax, whereas others don’t add nearly enough. The result? Far too much hold, or no hold at all.

LovelyBeards have absolutely nailed it with this beard balm. The hold you get from the product is pronounced enough to keep your beard in check, but not so much that you can’t still run your hand through it.

Noticeably Softens Hair

As your beard starts to pick up length, you’ll notice that the hair will become prickly, as well as pretty itchy, too. Nobody wants that. After 4 or 5 days of no products, my beard was getting back to that stage, too.

After adding some beard balm into my beard after my shower, however, I immediately felt better. My itch was gone and my hair even felt softer. I’ve continued to use the product for the past couple of days and the the hair has continued to reduce in prickliness.

Beardruff is a Thing of the Past

If there was ever a thing I hated, it’s beardruff. You’re in heated conversation and pause to think of a point. You run a cursory hand through your hair and suddenly, it’s white Christmas. Horrible.

Fortunately, this beard balm solved my beardruff issues, which had sneakily crept back onto the scene after my period of illness, during which I neglected to keep my facial hair moisturized.

Would I Use it Again?

Absolutely. On top of nectarine and mint being two of my favorite smells (hence why I chose them), LovelyBeards beard balm is an excellent product that really adds value to your morning routine.

Although the consistency of the balm is a little strange, it heats up perfectly in your hand and is still easy to apply – it just might take an extra 20 seconds or so over other balms.

In future, I’m definitely going to be trying out their mandarin and cedarwood scented balm, as well as explore their range of beard oils in more detail. I’d be interested to find out if they’re considering launching a range of beard grooming tools and brushes, as I’d be all over that.
